The MBMS Academy for Musicians
2023 Summer Educational Programming
– Summer Term Registration Period Ends May 31st! –
Dear Current Academy Members,
I'm very excited to share our 2023 summer programming for the MBMS Academy with you.
Instead of the weekly classes we offer during the regular academic year (September - May) our summer programming this year will offer several "concentrated" learning opportunities. You'll find the full program below.
A few key things to know:
- Your MBMS Academy membership will expire on May 31st.
- If you'd like to remain a member you will need to renew your membership during the summer term registration period (May 24th - May 31st).
- We will return to regular weekly classes in September.
- If you decide to let your membership lapse (by doing nothing), you will lose access to Circle (including all replays) on May 31st.
- You can rejoin later if you'd like (though there's a possibility membership fees will increase in the meantime and a new member fee will apply).
If you have any questions about our summer programming, please reach out to admin assistant Samantha Collins.
I hope you'll continue to remain a part of our wonderful community!
In Music,
Peter
Part #1 – 3 Intensive Courses
These intensive courses and their contents are essential parts of the MBMS approach. I am still working on webpages for each of these courses and should have them ready in the next few days.
You may have already taken one or more of these courses. However, please keep in mind that we are constantly innovating and improving these courses so each iteration is different. Also, I've noticed that people tend to get more out of these courses the more times they go through them. All that to say – reviewing those courses for a second or even third time will benefit you greatly!
One important thing to consider – if you were to purchase these 3 courses at their regular price, it would cost you nearly $500. As an Academy member, you'll be getting them (plus the 4 summer hangouts) for just $285 ($95/month for the 3 summer months).

Part #2 – 4 "Summer Hangouts"
These 90-minute events will be an opportunity to come together as a learning community throughout the summer to learn, explore, play and connect. The format for these hangouts will start with Peter Jacobson offering a short presentation on the weekly theme followed by group and individual explorations. Each hangout will also contain "Open Mic" time for people to share
They will take place on the following days and times:
- Thursday, June 1st @ 1:00pm - 2:30pm US Central Time; Theme: Stop Practicing, Start Doing Your Real Work
- Thursday, June 22nd @ 10:00am - 11:30am US Central Time; Theme: Exploring Joy in Music-Making

SPECIAL BONUS – Accountability Group on WhatsApp
All MBMS Academy members will have the option of joining the "Make Music First" accountability group. This WhatsApp thread consists of a group of musicians who have a strong commitment to doing their artistic work on a consistent and regular basis. This group was formed as part of the "Make Music First" as a plat form for course participants to report their daily artistic work to the group. Participants found it extremely useful and inspiring to know that other people were also doing their work. This group is optional and included in your summer membership for no additional fee. If you're looking for a way to stay supported during the summer months and stay consistent with your practice, this is a great opportunity!
