Dear Fellow Music Teacher/Educator,

'Tis the season for teacher burnout.

Music teaching professionals like you work so hard, giving everything you've got. While spinning what seems like a million plates.

It can be especially frustrating when that burnout goes unnoticed. (Music teaching can be a very lonely profession indeed.)

If there’s one thing music teaching professionals need this time of year it’s revitalization, defined as, “the imbuing of something with new life and vitality.”

New life and vitality?

Yes, please!

If you’re feeling burned out, overworked and ready to do make some changes in how you approach your teaching, I invite you to join me and two experienced music educators and Alexander Technique teachers – Karen Archbold and Juliana Marin – for this special 90-minute introductory workshop.

In this workshop, you'll receive a basic introduction to the Transformative Music Teaching approach, which uses principles of the Alexander Technique to optimize the teaching and learning experience.

Contrary to many people's idea of the Alexander Technique as just "bodywork," this work actually encompasses every aspect of human functioning from the physical to the emotional, from the mental to the spiritual. And it can be practiced anywhere and anytime. Even more important for music educators, the pedagogy of the Alexander Technique (which is essentially a method of change) can help bring fresh perspectives and ideas to music instruction.

The 2 primary goals of this workshop are to:

  1. Celebrate, appreciate and honor your brilliance as a music teaching professional
  2. Offer you some healthy tools that will help you teach at your best by doing less

Who Is It For?

This work is open to any and all music teachers and educators regardless of where you are in your teaching career. It's designed for all kinds of music teaching professionals – studio music teachers, classroom music educators and ensemble directors.

This workshop will be a good fit for you if you resonate with one or more of these phrases:

  • I often feel exhausted at the end of a teaching day.
  • I have issues with vocal health and stamina when I teach.
  • I’ve heard about the Alexander Technique and am curious to learn more.
  • I want to shake up my teaching and learn some fresh, new ways of working with students.
  • I want some help with how I sit and stand when I teach.
  • I want more tools to help my students succeed.
  • I often feel like an imposter, like I’m not a "real" teacher.
  • I live in pretty much a constant state of stress, anxiety and overwhelm.
  • I feel ill-equipped to deal with the challenges of this current generation of students."

What Will I Learn?

This workshop will focus on 3 main areas:

1. On-Demand Self-Care Tools
We all know the importance of self-care when it comes to sleep, diet, exercise and stress. This workshop will show you a different kind of self-care, one that is available "on-demand" while you're teaching. These practical self-care tools will help you meet any student or teaching situation with poise, grace and ease.

2. The Alexander Change Process
F.M. Alexander, the originator of the technique that bears his name, discovered a simple yet remarkable process for effecting positive change in human beings. In this workshop, you’ll be introduced to this process and learn a few of its basic principles and practices.

3. The 3 Magic Joints
During the workshop, you’ll learn how to map and use the 3 most important joints in the body to offer yourself maximum comfort and ease in all the various activities of teaching – including sitting, standing and speaking.

What's the Format?

This workshop will be highly experiential – expect to get your hands dirty. We are requesting that all live attendees be fully present with their cameras on. Otherwise, please plan to watch the recording (which everyone will receive).

The format will be a laboratory of sorts. You will see a demonstration of the Transformative Music Teaching approach in real-life teaching situations and then be able to put some of those ideas into practice.

The goal is that you will leave with a sense that there is a different and healthier way to approach your music teaching that doesn’t include burnout, stress and constant overwhelm.

If you have any questions about this workshop, please feel free to write to me directly.

I hope to see you there!

In Music,
Peter Jacobson
