The Transcendent Performer

“When I go to a concert, I don’t want to leave the hall the same way I entered. I want TRANSCENDENCE. I want something to happen to me in there, so that when I leave the hall, I’ve been touched in a deep, deep way – by magic, my some holy accident.”
–Bobby McFerrin

Workshop Overview

In this 90-minute workshop, we will explore what it means to be a transcendent performer using the ideas from the Alexander Technique and other performance-enhancing practices/modalities.

The format of the workshop will mostly consist of 1:1 coaching and group activities along with some time for questions and discussion.

The workshop will be divided into 3 parts:

1. Free Yourself from Performance Blocks

A fresh look at some of the most common ways musicians get in their own during performances, including:

  • Performance Anxiety – how to constructively address this common performing experience (including the often overlooked post-performance anxiety/rumination)
  • Perfectionism – how trying to be perfect can sabotage your performance (and what to do instead)
  • Self-Doubt – where to turn when you feel like you can't trust yourself

2. Grow Your Courage

The best performers express themselves boldly and courageously even in the face of fear and worry.

In this part of the workshop, we'll learn how to grow your courage using a simple yet powerful performance plan that will help bring greater clarity, power and confidence to your work.

3. Explore the Deeper Meaning of Performance

During this section of the workshop, we'll talk about and actively explore some of the deeper purposes of musical communication – especially what it can offer you, your listeners and humanity on the spiritual or soul level.
