Dear Fellow Musician and/or Music Educator,

Greetings!

My name is Peter Jacobson, and I'm the founder and director of The Mind Body Music School. I’m a certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, a lifelong musician, an experienced music educator (20+ years) and a conservatory-trained orchestral conductor.

I'm very happy to invite you to this 3-hour introductory workshop in San Francisco on Saturday, October 11th from 10am-1pm.

For well over a century, musicians have used the Alexander Technique to access their full artistic and creative potential. I am one of those musicians. It has been an integral part of my music journey and it is one of my great joys in life to share it with other musicians and music educators.

This introductory workshop is open to all musicians – vocalist and instrumentalist – regardless of style, ability or age. (Those under age 18 are welcome with a parent/guardian chaperone.)

The workshop will be mainly about:

  • Reliable ways to free your body while playing or singing
  • Overcoming nerves and performance anxiety
  • Practices to become a healthier musician

The format of this workshop will be a combination of group activities along with an option to work with me one-to-one on your playing or singing in front of the group. (I'll do my best to work with everyone that expresses interest in individual work. However, depending on final numbers, I can't make any promises.)

My goal is to co-create the kind of learning environment that is most conducive to deep learning, one that is safe, supportive, fun and joyful.

A few important things to know:

  • A grand piano will be available (it's an average instrument but it does the job).

  • You can dress in everyday casual attire.

  • We'll take a 10-minute break at about the halfway point.

If you're new to the Alexander Technique, this workshop will give you a taste of what this work has to offer.

If you've had prior experience with the Alexander Technique, this workshop will be a great refresher and offer you some new ways to apply the work directly to your music-making.

I hope to see you there!

In Music,
Peter Jacobson

MBMS Intro Workshop Reviews

"I would wholeheartedly recommend this workshop to others. The instructor created a generous space where musicians of all kinds could learn from and support each other. Actually hearing the difference that a subtle change in posture could make in a fellow musician's sound really helped me understand the value of this work."

–Deborah U., Singer in San Francisco

"To witness the immediate impact and improvement made by each performing student was amazing and very inspiring."

–Scott S., Guitarist in San Francisco

"Since music is one of the most healing parts of the human experience, we should definitely not be in pain while making music. Yet so many musicians are in pain due to repetitive movements that over time harm the body. Peter's workshop demonstrates in the most simple and profound way, how to engage with music as singers, or musicians who are holding instruments of all different sizes, in a way that flows with how our bodies are naturally meant to function. There are immediate instantaneous takeaways. I have already recommended his workshop to several of my musician friends."

–Rachel G., Singer in San Francisco

"It was amazing and beautiful to see how the workshop changed how people expressed themselves musically. The experience has inspired me to learn more about Alexander Technique so I can apply it to my playing and life in general."

–Mary A., Musician in San Francisco

"I would recommend the MBMS Workshop to any performer or practician of music. Their method of teaching the Alexander Technique is efficient, enjoyable, and, for me, revelational. Applying what I learned through the masterclass and the hands-on approach, I've found a new level of physical relaxation when performing or practicing music, and even when going about my daily life. Even more importantly, I've found a more comfortable headspace when performing through physical relaxation that allows me to enjoy the music more."
–Dylan M., Singer in Maryland

"I would definitely recommend this workshop. Whether a musician or not, Alexander Technique has so much to offer especially for seniors (like myself) who want to live the best and healthiest life possible."
–Dan F., Guitarist & Singer in New Jersey

"This workshop is the opportunity to experience the principles of the Alexander Technique and start to build the awareness of how your body functions and how everyday habitual movements affect your musical technique."
–Jan H., Singer in New York

"It was a lovely group of people and I have such admiration for the risks that people took in the interests of learning (and especially for your real support for all this to happen). The amazing sounds and the presence that came through when people were able to allow changes will stay with me for a long time. Wow! What it is to be human."
–Eileen J., Violinist & Alexander Technique Teacher in UK

"I would heartily recommend this workshop to other musicians. This was an introduction to a mind/body altering experience with the Alexander Technique/Process that was intellectually stimulating, technically and physically shape shifting for those who participated, and spiritual in its connection with others on a loving and playful level."
–Joan B., Singer & Teacher in Delaware

“In just the three hours we were working in the group setting I learned so much about movement, the expansion of my body, and how it all works with my singing and performance.”

–Cullen B., Singer in West Virginia

"DO IT. It is physically and mentally worth you time. Being a professional musician is not easy by any definition. But this workshop's attention to how a singer thinks, feels, and functions can lead to some amazing results. I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to go here in Berlin."
–Brie P., Singer in Germany

"As for me, I took away a lot from my session in front of the audience. I was really pleased at the feedback, having failed dismally in past performances (in my own mind that is). It had never occurred to me to thank the audience for applause, possibly because I was too bound up in myself, the old habit again. Thank you for pointing that out, and much more besides."
–James B., Singer & Alexander Technique Teacher in UK

"I have such special memories from the workshop that will stay with me for the rest of my life and I genuinely think Peter has an incredible gift for teaching. He makes people feel safe and valued and the content is clear, fun and interactive."
–Alex C., Singer & Alexander Technique Teacher in UK

“I though the workshop was very enjoyable and informative. I now feel more connected to my perception of my body.”
–Sam B., Singer in West Virginia

“This was an amazing eye-opening experience that cleared up a lot of questions I had. In just three hours I learned to rethink how my body moves. I feel like a different person!”
–Henry D., Singer in Illinois
